Warning: Pretentious Bullshit Up Ahead

WHAT IS THIS? Even their videos are reaching. This is just another twist of the knife.

Kings Of Leon - Notion

Come on now, Caleb singing to a wall? Explosions? Fire? Walking in the opposite direction of a crowd of people? This is pretentious art school bullshit. And yes I did catch their performance at the MTV movie awards (which was such a waste of time, let me tell you!) and it really drove home the fact that the era of Kings of Leon are over, I really don't like them anymore. How sad, indeed.

Youth and Young Manhood

I'm only linking this article named 'Youth and Young Manhood' about the epic on-going saga that is Crosby vs Ovechkin, from T.O. Sports Magazine because the author is clearly a Kings of Leon fan from the days when they were original, untouchable, and oh so perfect.

Its kind of pathetic how sad I get when I see them now but I don't care, they were totally my band! I guess I fell in love with the fact that they were so different, and so fucking amazing, and they just didn't give a shit! BUT now they're in fucking People magazine being name dropped by Miley Cyrus and I just can't handle it!

...no I am not being a bitter ~*real fan*~ because I wouldn't be having these icky feelings if Only by the Night was a good album because it wasn't! There I said it, in plain black and white, Only by the Night is not a good album! Fuck the Grammy's! Fuck the Brits! Because you can't sit there and tell me that OBTN is better than Youth and Young Manhood or better than Aha Shake Heartbreak or even better than Because of the Times because it isn't!

You don't even understand, guys! I wanted to love this album! I was soooo excited, I even conned myself into believing 'sex on fire' was a good song but soon enough I had to come to terms with the fact that OBTN is not good. Acutally it kind of blows.

*sigh*

but I haven't written them off just yet. Still love The Kings and the next album better be fucking amazing!

Thanks for the Insult and the Compliment

From David Thorpe c/o Nashville Scene:

1. KINGS OF LEON, "SEX ON FIRE" | Titles like this are totally wasted on bands like this -- imagine how classic a song called "Sex on Fire" would be if it were by Soft Cell or Suicide or something. At least it's not a huge disappointment, since we already know that Kings of Leon aren't a homo-erotic synth-pop duo but a gaggle of brawny, sincere Southerners who've earned the fawning adulation of the UK press and the bitter hatred of the US hipster press (and probably warrant neither). They're one of those minor trifles that'll be caught in a they-suck/no-they-don't tug of war for a few more years before getting shelved for decades and rediscovered as visionary geniuses by the hipbots of 2025. (Not that they deserve it -- that's just how it works.)

Oh snap!

I'm not agreeing. I'm not disagreeing. You know how I feel about the Kings. You know how I feel about OBTN, I'm only posting this because well, I think they need a good smack! Don't you agree?

Whoa...Wait...What?

Picture this:

You're a badass, no BS, extremely talented rock band from the American South and in not so many words have called out other musicians for feeding us shitty music. You're beloved by rock gods, cool celebrities, and hip models. The image that you've created has been bare bones, honest, and badass. You're the coolest fuckers out there and you know it, maybe to your fault.

So I ask thee this, if you were said talented rock band would you cut your family vacation short so you could be paid 300 000 pounds to play at a party thrown by the owner of Chelsea Football Club a famous art dealer? And would you consider that selling out?

To be fair, Kings of Leon, never said they were Nirvana. They didn't say they'd never sell out, so from that I must conclude that: Kings of Leon aren't sell outs!

BUT

Even though, I can't condemn them for wanting to get some extra cash for their mom (who else would they give it to? Get it Betty Ann!), it still doesn't feel Kosher, just like Only by the Night doesn't feel Kosher. This doesn't feel like the KOL that I know and love, they wouldn't play some Russian billionaire's party, not for all the coke money in the world BUT I can't really hate on them for doing such because they can do as they damn well please, right?

PS Ooooooo I wonder if Cheryl Cole was there? Now that would be too much hot in one room!

Dear Caleb,

All we do is fight.
I just don't know you anymore.
Is it really over?

Proper Recognition, Wrong Album

I am so happy. So happy, that my boys The Kings of Leon, have been nominated for 3 Grammy's: Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals; Best Rock Song; and Best Rock Album.

They deserve this. More than anyone in rock today. So I won't go on about 'only by the night' because we know how I feel. Let's just pretend that its 2005 and that Aha Shake Heartbreak is being nominated.

2005, that was a good year.

Stay for me

Saw the Kings last night, they were fantastic. I enjoy them so much more live than I do on track!

When they played Molly's chambers the people around me didn't seem to know it but when they played sex on fire everyone when nuts...I'm not hating, I'm just saying!

Sex on fire is not their best song, not even close!

Last time there were no drunken frat boys this time around that's all there were; all thanks to Only by the Night...

Please boys I beg of you, go back to being original! Go back to making albums that no one else could make! Go back to Ethan Johns!

I'm sorry I can't love Only by the Night. I can't love it like I do Youth and Young Manhood and the masterpiece that is Aha Shake Heartbreak, not even the way I love Because of the Times.

I'm not a snobby ass fan that wants you all to myself and who wants you to make the same album all over again but I want you to be you, with long hair, smoker's cough, and a never ending hangover...but maybe I'm asking too much.

Are you the new Arctic Monkeys? Is it really over?

Liam Gallagher shares my sentiment

From NME:

Despite being a Kings of Leon fan, Liam Gallagher has said that he doesn't like the band's new album 'Only By The Night'

"I like Kings of Leon, but I don't know about this fucking new record," he declared. "I like the old stuff. I like (Caleb Followill’s) voice. When they first come out I was going, 'Who the fuck is this?' They were cool, and now they've all got their sleeves cut off"

"It seems to me they've gone for the bucks, man. I'm not dissing them because I fucking really like them, but it's like they've got this U2 sound and you can do better than that."

I rarely agree with the Gallagher brothers' 'I know everything there is to know about rock n' roll' attitude BUT this is EXACTLY how I feel! I'm still a fan, I still love them, they're still in the top 5, hell I'm going to see them on Friday HOWEVER, Only by the Night (with a few exceptions) BLOWS, and I'm not afraid to say it! And apparently Liam and I aren't the only ones who feel this way.

I mean this was a band who wrote Spiral Staircase and now we have sentimental U2 rip-offs like Use Somebody, bitch please!

Here's their new video for none other than 'Use Somebody' and to add insult to injury, Caleb is rolling around with that home wrecking model. So this song is about her, huh, Caleb? Well it definitely explains why its such a sissy pile o' shite. Good luck seeing the kids now babe, we're definitely done!

Kings of Leon - Use Somebody

PS I'm still totally stoked at seeing them this Friday, here's hoping they play mostly of their old stuff!!!!!!!!

PPS And to think I was so excited for their new album, who knew it would end up in divorce?

Cold Desert

Despite my mixed feelings on Only by the Night, there are songs on there that are truly great, one of which is Cold Desert, which Caleb sang whilst drunk (when is he not drunk is what I'd like to know). Its such a raw song, gets down to your bones; your soul, simply beautiful. Its one of my all time favourite KOL songs EVER! You have to listen to it, it will change your life!

I'm on the corner, waiting for a light to come on
That's when I know that you're alone
It's cold in the desert, water never sees the ground
Special unspoken without sound

You told me you loved me, that I'd never die alone
Hand over your heart, let's go home
Everyone noticed, everyone has seen the signs
I've always been known to cross lines

I've never ever cried when I was feeling down
I've always been scared of the sound
Jesus don't love me, no one ever carried my load
I'm too young to feel this old

Is it you, is it me
Or does nobody know, nobody see
Nobody but me

Tough Love...it hurts

Who are these people???

If we're being open and honest here, which we are, I must say Caleb has yet to win me back. I got a leak to Only by the Night (Shut up, I'm still going to buy it, I just got a little impatient, that's all) and truth be told, compared to Youth and Young Manhood; compared to Aha Shake Heartbreak; compared to Because of the Times, Only by the Night doesn't even come close!

There are a few songs which are brilliant (i.e. Sex on Fire, Cold Desert, Crawl) but overall? It just doesn't feel like KOL at all. It sounds like they're reaching, like they're trying too hard; like First Impressions of Earth; like XY; or like *gulp* The Killers.

I know they want to be big in North America and are tired of shit bands like Fall Out Boy dominating the rock scene here and they SO deserve the success and adulation that Panic at the Disco and the Jonas Brothers get but why venture away from what made them unique, what makes them good?

Now I'm not saying that The Kings should make the same album over and over again like Kid Rock or Nickleback, in fact I've enjoyed their evolution from Youth and Young Manhood to Because of the Times. It felt right but Only by the Night doesn't feel right, it feels forced, it feels...disingenuous.

Come back to this. Come back to us. Come back to me.

All albums before, hover between 5/5 - 4/5 but Only by the Night is a 3/5 at best...and that hurts to say, like you don't even know!

Even though I'm not feeling this album, even though I haven't fallen in love with it like every album before, I'll still buy it. I'll still see them in concert, support them, love them, and they'll still be my top artist on my last.fm! because that's what love's all about.

I might have to file divorce papers but I'll still love the Kings, and I hope that the album after this one is truly great and blows everyone out of the water but for now, I'll sit in the back drinking my gin n' tonic, bobbing my head, being supportive but not in love.

The good ole days:

Talihina Sky - Kings of Leon

King Of The Rodeo - Kings of Leon

On Call - Kings Of Leon

Best Kings of Leon Video to date!

The boys talk about their balls, sperm and 'Look who's Talking'...with their mom!

I would post the other ones but they feature that home wrecking 'model' Lily Aldridge. Ugh, did you know that she's one degree away from that highly contagious bleeding from every orifice disease? That means Caleb is two degrees away from that virus! THAT means that the band is three degrees away from Ebola's bastard child!

Maybe that's why Only by the Night is so...off but that's a different post.

Oh Caleb, what have you done?

Kings of Leon: WASSUP!?!?!

Ummm...

(from left to right: Lumber Jack, Cheesy 80s record producer, random dude, and a lost boy)

I hate to be so hard on my boys, they do look good, but, with the exception of Nathan, where'd all the hair go? The beautiful I don't give a fuck hair?!?!

Matt and Jared are totally male modeling it up for the camera BUT Jared, Michael Jared Followill, your look so reminds me of another Michael, a Michael, that was once a lost boy:

am I wrong?

Kings of Leon Home Video: Making Fun of Matthew

Poor Matthew BUT Jared is hilarious. I love it when Matt and Caleb are on the motorcycle and Caleb's running his hand through Matt's hair, oh wow, them boys sure are funny!

Kings of Leon Home Videos

NO, you pervs! Not those kind of home videos!

ANYWAYS, in preparation of the realease of only by the night, the kings have decided to let their perverted dedicated fans take a glimpse into their recording process and hopefully grab a few new fans along the way.

Am glad, they've finally realized the power of the internet. They may not be big here in North America but cyber space has no bounds, people, its universal; we get to see what those lucky buggers across the pond get to see.

Caleb saving himself for marriage? Who knew? LOL!

Hell Yes!

*WIN*

Kings of Leon are back my friends!!!!!!! They're new single Sex on Fire, is...well sex!

'You're sex is on fiiiiiiiiire'

I think its official guys, I've formally forgiven Caleb for this little stumble. Philandering with a no-name model will not shatter our love. We're stronger than this. And could you say no to a guy who wrote a song called 'sex on fire'? I think not. Oh Caleb Followill if you are my prince charming there must be something seriously wrong with me but I DON'T CARE WHAT NOBODY SAYS WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A BABY!!!!!!!!

PS They're coming to Toronto on November 7th! I'm there! Front AND centre.

Le Roi est mort, vie les Roi de Léon!!!!!!!!!

Only By The Night

Just announced; Kings of Leon's new album will be called Only By The Night (kind of reminds me of Depeche Mode's 'Waiting for the night') and it will be released September 23. Oh boys thats 3 months too late, I want it NOW!!!!!!!!

OOO I can't wait for tour dates and singles, AHHHHHHHHH, SO excited!
