The white right way

I'm sure some of you have heard about Darren Pang's Freudian slip about PK Subban, if not you will in about 40 seconds:



I truly believe that Pang made an honest mistake. I don't think he meant to imply that Subban's style of play is 'too black' and he needs to 'whiten' his game but whether he likes it or not his slip of the tongue has ignited a conversation about the game of hockey, and how the NHL is a very homogeneous place, not just in the diversity of its players ethnic background but their behaviour as well.

Let's start off with the less obvious culprit, i.e. if any player has any kind of personality, he's deemed immature, too flamboyant, reckless, cocky, etc. etc. all words which have been used to describe one of the greatest players playing today, Alexander Ovechkin.

Lucky for us he doesn't give a rat's ass about what those old geezers on the hot stove think of him, or the cognitive challenged Don Cherry. He still has hilarious goal celebrations, he still gives the best interviews in the league, and he still goes end to end, making us all feel bad about ourselves but those assessments of him being too arrogant and not responsible, and the never ending comparisons to the very vanilla Sidney Crosby will just not die.

The NHL needs to wake the hell up. If they want to compete with the other major leagues in North America and potenitally expand to Europe (OMG I'm sooo out of it I almost spelled Europe like yourope, I need sleep) they need to stop hammering down players who show a bit of originality or personality. This ain't the original six league anymore, there aren't just Canadians and Americans playing, if they want to diversify and expand their fan base, they need to allow their players to be diversified as well, which brings us to my next point.

The NHL is a very homogeneous place, you'll mostly see one type of dude playing, which if you look at it historically, it makes sense but its the 21st century, so it is a little baffling when you have die hard hockey pundits like Don Cherry or even local coaches hating on Europeans entering the league hell- they even hate on French Canadians who are North American. Clearly, something needs to change within our hockey culture, because if a dude from Sweden is given the side-eye, how is a dude like Nazem Kadri supposed to fare?

Its time that the league, the fans, hell even the game realize that hockey is evolving. Players wear helmets now, and mouth guards, and even *gasp* visors, and they may even be from somewhere that isn't Saskatchewan or Alberta or Minnesota or Ontario or North America in general! Times are changing, yes one of the best players, in the league is from Europe, yes one of the most promising defensemen in the league is black, isn't it time we embrace this change, and teach everyone that no matter where you come from or what you look like as long as you work hard, persevere, and are good the people around you, you will be successful?

Racism and Xenophobia has no place in this game or in the modern world, its time we all realized that!

Youth and Young Manhood

I'm only linking this article named 'Youth and Young Manhood' about the epic on-going saga that is Crosby vs Ovechkin, from T.O. Sports Magazine because the author is clearly a Kings of Leon fan from the days when they were original, untouchable, and oh so perfect.

Its kind of pathetic how sad I get when I see them now but I don't care, they were totally my band! I guess I fell in love with the fact that they were so different, and so fucking amazing, and they just didn't give a shit! BUT now they're in fucking People magazine being name dropped by Miley Cyrus and I just can't handle it!

...no I am not being a bitter ~*real fan*~ because I wouldn't be having these icky feelings if Only by the Night was a good album because it wasn't! There I said it, in plain black and white, Only by the Night is not a good album! Fuck the Grammy's! Fuck the Brits! Because you can't sit there and tell me that OBTN is better than Youth and Young Manhood or better than Aha Shake Heartbreak or even better than Because of the Times because it isn't!

You don't even understand, guys! I wanted to love this album! I was soooo excited, I even conned myself into believing 'sex on fire' was a good song but soon enough I had to come to terms with the fact that OBTN is not good. Acutally it kind of blows.

*sigh*

but I haven't written them off just yet. Still love The Kings and the next album better be fucking amazing!

Too Cool For School!

I'm doing a lot better this year in terms of keeping up with my readings. I'm a little behind but that's to be expected there's no way I could possibly be on the ball in all of my classes many of which require several readings each week, so I'm a little behind but not at all like I was last year...or so I thought.

For one of my classes I'm a month behind, yes I did say a month! This class' readings has sort of been on the back burner I admit BUT in my defense each week I have to read about three, 50-100 page articles for this class which is all fine and well, except I have other classes AND I have to work. I had originally thought that I was 2 maybe 3 weeks behind in this class but yesterday I went to the library at school looked at the reading schedule, looked at where I was at and..FUCK!

I can't do this again, seriously I can't! today I was supposed to go to my tutorial then shop for my sister's birthday present but I'm skipping both just so I can read the articles (or try to) that need to be read for next class. I figure, there's no point in playing catch up because its a losing game. I'll read the articles I need to read for this week and next week and once that's done (hopefully by sunday/monday) I can read the articles I skipped over.

I love learning, I do but fuck sometimes I really want to tear my hair out and jump off of a building!

Sure your girlfriend broke up with you then 3 weeks later starts "macking" the guy that every girl had a crush on, and of course since bitch is hot he macks back and it looks like they'd start dating. I get it, you were/are obsessed; completely and utterely infatuated; grossly dependent on her; so your heart was breaking because a)she broke up with you and b)she moved on so quickly but then one night y'all got drunk, got into a HUGE fight, but then ended up going home together.

So with pressures from well, YOU, she ended it with Mr. hot stuff, and you guys got sucked into the blackhole,vacuum, roller coaster that is your relationship, and started sniffing coke off of strippers asses again...ok I added the last part

However, you've got the girl...again! Even Mr. hot stuff got himself a nice girlfriend, so why so bitter??? Why is everytime we talk you have to mention his fashion faux pas, I get it he can't dress, I also get that he's terrified of you, SO FOR FUCK'S SAKE YOU GOT THE GIRL SHE'S YOURS FOREVER AND ALWAYS!!!! Just because he was her amusement for about 5 minutes doesn't mean you have to continue the trash talking! Its been a year since they did, whatever they did! She loves you not him! MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so enough with the puck bunny ish, agreed? Although I am pleased that the Sens have managed to school the leafs in hockey...yea I went there!!!

So the other day I was hit on by some Jamaican dude on a bike, can I tell you how its the second time in 2 months that I've been hit on by a Jamaican dude on a bike...a bike as in a bicycle not a motorcycle. ANWAYS bitch was sketchy as hell! I was really rude to him and he did not take the hint, because you know when a girl actually says "no you'll never have a chance" that's a sure sign that's she's into you and you should continue to harass her. After a while I couldn't understand what he was saying because his accent was so heavy, I just kept on saying "yea ok BYE!" over and over again, he got the hint eventually.

But really what gets my knickers in a twist that both douches patronized me! I'm not an idiot! I don't need to be taken care of,!I'm not some lovey dovey girl, who needs to be "loved all the time"(gag!!!)! I don't need you! I don't want you! I'd bathe in acid before I'd let you touch me! So fuck off!!!!!!
